The rooms in your home express your personality, your likes, your passions and how you like to live. No matter what style you choose, you want to have elements that bring a unique and interesting aspect to the space. If you are ready to give your home a facelift or are building your home from the outside in, here is a list of lighting ideas specifically for the most used room in the house; the living room.

Some like to call it a living room, some like to call it a family room, and even some like to call it a grand room. Whatever you call it, it is important. When thinking about the necessities of a large room, you have to consider being able to sit, see, things to do and its purpose. Lighting is first and most important. If you have a modern home and want to keep that theme going, consider making a shelf all around the border of your ceiling and on that shelf putting long LED tubing lights. This creates light in all parts of the room without it being so noticeable in the space. It almost gives the effect of a halo hovering over your room.

If you enjoy country style in your room, you’ll want to look for lighting that is contemporary and traditional, like it would look in a cottage. Lamps bring a lot of light into the room, but they highlight that small area and not so much a lot of the entire room. They bring a romantic, calm vibe to the space. Try something like a hanging tin ceiling fan. You get the sense you are in an old, rustic home with a lot of character and memories.

Hacienda or Spanish style is very popular in the southwest and many parts of the world. It ties in a bit of medieval and colorful styles. If you have ever wanted a large, grand chandelier in your home, this is the route to go. In the Spanish style, the chandelier is rod iron or rust color and has many shapes and designs intertwined. There is also a necessity for a lot of lighting, as most Spanish style homes have high ceilings and triangular ceilings. Try adding some lights on the wood beams to bring more light into the room.

Beach themed living rooms are perfect for a shore house or a vacation home. Since the natural light is the best part of the beach, you should be minimal on the lighting fixtures. A small, elegant chandelier in the center will bring attention to the room, but small circular lights in the ceiling placed in a parallel motion, are perfect for this type of space.

Customized rooms in your home can be a great focal point to any house whether the house is custom or track. These rooms are usually used more often than a standard living room. For any customized room such as man caves, home theaters, workshops, etc., should include custom LED lighting or other lighting options to give this room a great presence. What is custom LED lighting and how can it benefit you? Well, LEDs are extremely versatile and can be engineered to produce lighting for any given space. The benefits would be to create a custom room using these lighting techniques to give people that “wow” factor. These lights also last 20+ years!
