Contemporary Interior Design Inspired by Summer Garden (Part 1)

What can be sweeter than three generations of a big family brought together around a family table in the garden on a warm summer evening… That is exactly the concept that constitutes the basis of this apartment interior design created in the Crimea. The spouses purchased a newly-built seaside flat for seasonal recreation and spending time with their elderly parents and grown-up kids who live nearby. They wanted their home to be contemporary and warm and were open for bold color experiments and non-standard decoration tricks. Let’s see what they got in the end!

Entrance hall

As we already mentioned in the beginning, this interior is a variation on the theme of an old summer garden. This topic penetrates the entire space and starts right from the entrance hall. Green sliding glass doors of a built-in closet and open shelves in the shape of tree branches are kind of a preamble to the top story. An interesting detail of the hallway is a decorative carved 3D wall panel that is actually meant to conceal an electric service panel.

Dining Zone

The dining room suite is located adjacent to a wall with tree branches climbing up it: “growing” from a 3D base, they visually separate the dining area from the lounge. The wall part of the tree is made of sheetrock, and the partition section is made of the same material but with a metal framework.

Dark brown background creates an especially spectacular background for the showy composition and gradually flows to the ceiling. This makes the two surfaces seem broader, creating the feel of spaciousness and volume. And bespoke decorative ceramic plates play the role of garden fruits.

Kitchen

Both the lounge and kitchen walls are painted olive green, which supports the summer garden idea. And white serves as a complementary hue that adds some freshness to the coloristic harmony.

In this city apartment the kitchen reminds of a part of a country house – a verandah or a summer terrace. Its walls are finished with gapped sheetrock stripes that conjure up images of painted lining boards. Such a design coupled with glossy snow-white upper cabinets and grayish veneer finishes of base modules and open shelves creates the associations with natural environment. And though light “columns” built into the walls on both sides of the preparation area and a chromed cooker hood bring an urban note to the kitchen interior, they rather complement the “countryside idyll” than ruin it.

Plenty of white color adds the sense of airiness to the kitchen, creating an illusion of bright daylight. The backsplash is made of transparent tempered glass and additionally reflects sunlight coming from the window.
