Today’s rhythm of life is pretty fast: we got used to being in a hurry, getting fruits of our jobs on the spot and being engaged in a few activities at a time. But there are things that will not tolerate hustle. That is why the concepts of “slow living” and “hygge” (the Danish philosophy of comfort and serenity) are more relevant now than ever before.  They encourage us to stop and enjoy every moment of our lives.

Slower rhythm and tranquility – that is what many of us miss most of all. Thus, one in every three participants of the recent research held by IKEA would like to get a chance to have nowhere to hurry and spend more time on daily routine jobs. 32% of those surveyed are sure that from doing so they will improve their life quality. 23% of the interviewed believe that increased stresses are caused by the fact that even at home we have plenty of tasks that are urgent. But then where are we supposed to relax, if even home becomes stressful?

In the nature, of course. Scandinavian landscapes are the embodiment of pristine beauty, consistency, regularity of seasons and special pace of time. This is also relevant to talents of Scandinavian masters – high-end products can’t be made in a rush. It is from the typical Scandinavian notions of time, naturalness and good workmanship that IKEA designers drew their inspiration for the new collection from.

“Stockholm-2017” has become the embodiment of the “slow living” concept. Every piece from the new collection – whether it is a rug, a tray, a throw pillow, an arm-chair or a wardrobe – was created without any regard to the time and resources spent. Moreover, IKEA’s designer team took a chance to improve their workmanship by personally attending the production site in Indonesia.

This is not the first “Stockholm” already. But no matter what year it was, those collections were always characterized by contemporary Scandinavian style, practicality and top quality. This year looking for inspiration the designers focused on Swedish nature, and in particular on the water. What is special about the Swedish water? It is cold all year round, even in summer. That is why the new collection features so much Nordic dark blue pieces.

However, the close-to-nature features are not limited to the color scheme. In “Stockholm-2017” you will find dozens of products made from natural, eco-friendly and durable materials, like rattan, ash wood and hand-blown glass.  By the way, many new products from this collection are hand-crafted: this year tactile characteristics of furniture and accessories were given special attention.
