It goes without saying that sporting activities are essential for a full and healthy life. Exercises are the win-win way to remove tension, but all the fuss of a working week hardly leaves us time for hobbies, not to mention a ride to a fitness club or a visit to the stadium. A nice way out of this vicious circle is the arrangement of a sports zone right at home. And if you are already ready to design a home gym, we’d be glad to give you a few tips on how to make it properly and not at the expense of hominess.

Where?

The best room for a home gym is a spacious one and having enough daylight. Considering that correct breathing is an essential part of any exercises, the room must be well-ventilated. If you live in a small apartment, a sports corner can be organized in a loggia, in a living room or a bedroom, for example.

Walls

Whenever possible, do not face the walls of your home gym with plastic panels or ceramic tiles – these materials are moisture-proof. Ideally, the walls should be finished with “breathing” corkwood, common cellulose wallpaper or traditional plaster. And if your home gym goes through the stage of planning, it would be worth thinking about the soundproofing aspect and set your choice upon sound-absorbing wall coverings.

Flooring

The same soundproofing point has to be envisaged when it comes to picking the flooring material. As a rule, home gym floors are covered with carpeting for commercial application, corkwood or vinyl panels.

Color scheme

In terms of a color scheme have your heart set upon quiet, pastel shades. A nice choice is blue – it ensures the sense of relaxation. Also consider the hues of yellow, green and gray.

Equipment

Within limited areas small fitness equipment would be the most welcome: weights, a step board or an exercise mat. They are ideal since they not only take up little space, but also allow for doing a big complex of exercises.

One more nice option is wall bars with extra fitness equipment, such as a horizontal bar, parallel bars or an incline.

Your budget permitting, you’d better choose multifunctional fitness equipment, such as an elliptical trainer or a fitness station. This way you’re saving space by making a set of versatile exercises on a single type of equipment.

And of course, cardio training equipment is a nice purchase: a racetrack or an exercise bike.

Furnishing and decor

In fact, a home gym doesn’t need much furnishing or decoration. Maybe, just a small chest of drawers or a shelving unit would help you refresh the asceticism of this room. There you can store small fitness equipment or arrange the speakers – music is a nice company for positive physical activities.

Also, it would be nice to have a couple of full-length mirrors – they will help you control the correctness of exercises performed.
